Dr. Michael Best is a German and European Patent Attorney since 1995 and in 1998 joined the office Lederer & Keller as partner. He is a qualified chemist and specialized in intellectual property rights in pharmaceutical, macromolecular and physical chemistry matters.

Dr. Best has broad experience in patent prosecution before the German Patent and Trademark Office and the European Patent Office. A particular focus of his work lies in opposition and appeal proceedings before the European Patent Office and nullity proceedings before the German Patent Court and the Federal Supreme Court as well as in representing clients in patent and utility model infringement proceedings. He prepares opinions in potential patent infringement cases and advises clients with regard to the most appropriate strategy in German and international patent infringement proceedings. Dr. Best was leading patent attorney in a high number of important opposition, nullity and infringement proceedings including those for many pharmaceutical “Blockbuster” products (e.g. Omeprazol, Esomeprazol, Alendronat, Fentanyl, Rivaroxaban, Fulvestrant, Pemetrexed, Pregabalin and Tadalafil), but also in the field of polymer chemistry and general chemistry.

Dr. Best studied chemistry and physics at the University of Mainz and graduated in 1991. Subsequently he continued his studies at the University of Bristol, England. He obtained his training in an international patent law firm in Munich, at the District Court in Munich, at the German Patent and Trademark Office and at the Federal Patent Court.

Dr. Best's hobbies include reading, gaming, long mountain hikes with his dog and anything to do with food and drink, especially his wine and whisky collection.
